Monday to Friday — 9 am to 5 pm.
The clinic is closed on weekends and statutory holidays.
You do not require a referral from your doctor to book an appointment.
Most procedures require only one appointment of about 2 to 3 hours duration. Please call to book the appointment yourself. We have several questions about your medical history that only you can answer. It is important that you answer these questions accurately and completely so that we may provide you with the safest possible care.

Most pre-operative care including, ultrasound, counselling and swabs for infection testing, can be done at the clinic on the day of your appointment. However, we do require you to get a blood test done before you come to the clinic. If we do not have all the blood test results by your appointment time, your procedure may be delayed or cancelled.
If you live in Calgary, Kensington Clinic will send the requisition for the blood tests to a lab that is convenient for you to go to. You do not need an appointment to get the blood tests done, but some of the labs will now allow you to make an appointment if you prefer. If you are living outside Calgary, you will need to have these tests ordered by your doctor or the Sexual Health unit in your region.
If you live outside Calgary and/or are unsure of when your last period was, we may require you to have an ultrasound examination before your appointment. Our staff will review your situation and discuss this with you when you book your appointment.

You are required to confirm your appointment at Kensington Clinic a few days before your procedure. When you book your appointment we will give you the date we require you to call to confirm. You must call on the date given to you before noon, or your appointment will automatically be cancelled and given away to someone else. When you call to confirm your appointment, have a pen and paper handy or print the instructions below.
Fasting — If your appointment is in the morning, do not eat or drink after midnight. If your appointment is in the afternoon, do not eat or drink after 7:00 a.m. If you do not fast your procedure will be cancelled.
Transportation — You cannot drive a vehicle for 24 hours after the procedure. We strongly recommend that you arrange for a ride home. You may bring one person to the clinic with you. No children are allowed. Your ride must be here by 4:00 p.m. as the clinic will be closing. If you do not have anyone to drive you home, you can rebook your appointment for a day that someone will be available to escort you.
Do have a bath or a shower the night before or in the morning.
Do not take aspirin, alcohol or recreational drugs for 24 hours before your appointment.
Do arrive on time for your appointment. If you are more than 20-30 minutes late, your procedure may be delayed or cancelled. You do not need to arrive before you appointment time. If you do, you will only have a longer wait before you are seen.
Do not bring valuables to the clinic. You will be given a locker to store your belongings but the clinic will not be responsible for any items lost or left behind.

If you have Alberta Health Care Insurance or Saskatchewan Health Care Insurance there are no fees.
If you are from any other province, the federal government and the provincial health ministries together have elected to exclude abortion from the list of insured services within the Interprovincial Billing Agreement. This means women who are temporarily working or studying away from their home province or who have recently moved to another province and do not yet have coverage from their new home province, are required to pay for the procedure out of pocket. There are a few exceptions, and the result is a patchwork of insured and uninsured services. At Kensington Clinic we are able to offer the following fee schedule:

$450.00
$450.00
$630.00
* Medical Abortions are available to Calgary area residents only.

The following provinces will not pay for clinic abortions and/or for any abortions outside their jurisdiction, therefore the patient is responsible for the entire fee. Non-residents are also subject to these rates.
$880.00
$750.00
$855.00
$1035 - $1140
Fees may be reduced by $100 - $150 if patient presents with a diagnostic ultrasound.
* Medical Abortions are available to Calgary area residents only.
** Non-residents will be subject to an additional $50 fee

Payment can be made by cash, VISA, Mastercard, American Express, Debit Card, certified cheque, or money order. Unfortunately, we cannot accept personal cheques.
Fees are subject to change without notice.
